How To Prevent Your Pipes From Freezing

Pipes start to freeze when the temperature drops to around 20 degrees Fahrenheit

Tips

  • Keep your thermostat at 55 degrees at least; however, we recommend 65 degrees if possible

  • During freezes, let cold faucet water on the exterior walls to trickle to relieve pressure in the pipes and allow water to keep moving

  • Open cabinet doors to let the warm air circulate the pipes

  • Insulate pipes that are not in insulated areas such as garages, basements and attics with foam pipe sleeves or heat tape

  • Disconnect outdoor hoses and shut off water to exterior faucets

  • Seal holes or gaps around doors and windows to prevent drafts

  • Keep garage doors closed during freezes
